Week 8: Challenges

This week was an interesting one for sure.

I always find it so cool that the week's theme usually relates to exactly what's happening in my life. The talk "However Long and Hard the Road" has always been one of my favorite BYU devotionals ever given by Elder Holland, which is saying something, because I freaking love that man.

But the advice to keep hoping for happy times ahead was especially needed this week. I felt like I ran into a lot of challenges with my business, but then today I found out my friend Faith was killed in a car accident.

These kind of challenges knock the wind out of you. They come out of nowhere and make you think about what's really important. And truth be told, my entire life has become my business. It's all I've been thinking about for the past few months.

But does it really all matter if I'm successful in my business if I'm not nurturing my relationships? I mean, I could die tomorrow. And it would be terrible if at my funeral, the most anyone could say about the impact I had on their lives was that I was a good photographer.

All in all, the perspective shift has been good for me. Reminding myself that professional success is only a piece of my grand and beautiful life is never a bad thing.
